Quick question

Rolleyes Quick question
Hi guys,

First of all, just wanted to say what a cool little forum you've got here, I'm not a vampire myself and don't really agree with all that's said on here but you've got a nice community (much more than a lot of forums I've been on), and a lot of you have excellent music taste. :)

Anyway, I've been on here a few times now as part of a research project on online subcultures, and in particular the vampire subculture. I realise it's not cool to go on forums and post questions instead of researching, for which I apologise, but I couldn't really see any other way to do this.

My part of the project is about 'searching and selection', which is basically about why you choose the websites/forums that you do and how it relates to your choices offline. So basically, did you join this site after being awakened, or does your interest in awakening happen after you came on here? This applies to humans as well as vampires, does your interest stem from your offline lives or did finding this/other vampire websites arouse your interest in the subject?

Any information would be greatly appreciated, though I'm kinda pressed for time on this so a quick reply would be appreciated (because of my own ditziness I didn't actually realise I was supposed to be looking at this in particular). As such it would also be helpful if someone could speak for the community in general rather than just themselves as it's supposed to be about trends in subculture. Though of course, I appreciate that you aren't obligated to reply at all so any answers would be much appreciated :)

Once more I apologise if this is against forum etiquette or anything, I can't really see any other way to do this - I've trawled through the introduction threads but it's hard to get a sense of the wider picture there. Also thanks for reading this long rambling post, and hope to hear from you all!

- Tom

RE: Quick question
At least you had the good manners to praise us before asking for our help :)
I see no reason why your post should not appear and people have the opportunity of responding to it if they wish.

Good luck

RE: Quick question
Well, I wanted to know what was up with me. I was thinking there was something wrong because I was becoming obsessed with blood, and when I didn't drink any my health began to suffer until I learned to psy-feed. Somewhere along the line while doing research I stumbled onto this forum and fell in love with it.
Since finding out what I am, I began to take a look at legends and folklore and I've been trying to come up with a new spin to vampires that could make a good book without giving away too much about the reality of our kind. I guess there are some of us who are out in the open but I would like to keep the general public in the dark, so to speak.

RE: Quick question
I think that I would probably not be a good voice for the vampire community though. I have some discrepancies in the things a believe and what some of the covens out there believe. I'm best as a solitary, I was a solitary witch for years, so now I'm a solitary vampire and I've always felt the best when I do things my own way.

RE: Quick question
I am 40 years old and realized I was a vampire back in 1994. The handful of "real" vampires with whom I associate predate the internet "explosion" of vampire websites. I, like many others of my generation were interested in vampiric topics long before visiting a website. Vampire groups and organizations were ran through postal mail. Social interactions were through local goth night clubs. I am sure the age of the vampires involved has a major impact on the trends you are researching. Best of luck with your research.
