RE: Genetic vampirism
The origin of vampires is a very sketchy topic. There are tons of theories but no solid evidence. There are memories of past lives among us but the majority of us really don't know when we (as otherkin) truly began to be in existence but we do know it is not a disease or disorder. If it was it would be somehow transmittable, which it is not.
"the soul is like a g-spot. no one can prove it's there but I've been doing some reading of ancient texts and it's really making me think of all the possibilities... There are a few here who are the Fallen and remember who they are but I think that other types of otherkin have a more difficult time remembering. I can only talk about what I know and have observed. If asked I could not name myself in a past life, or my story let alone where I came from. I do get glimpses of other times though. I see a desert, velvet dresses, a stage, marble, olive branches, white cloth, fire, a body of water, wings... Over and over I see them but they tell me nothing of my origin, simply a few places of where I have been since. you could feel it sometimes" "In fear I hurried this way and that. I had the taste of blood and chocolate in my mouth, the one as hateful as the other." ~Hermann Hesse, Steppenwolf]

RE: Genetic vampirism
Many of the popular legends come from Transylvania but that does not mean that vampires originated there.
I am the light on the other side of Darkness
There are many references in much older literature in other parts of the world which could well relate to vampires only not by that name. I have my own personal theories and if I am right then vampires are far far older than te legends and originate somewhere entirely different. However, these are just my beliefs and everyone in the end has to make up their own minds because the fact is no one is ever going to be able to prove this one way or the other. |

RE: Genetic vampirism
Hi everyone!
I am afraid the whole Egypt thing was spawned for the most part by Anne Rice whose novels had a huge impact on both the goth and vampire subcultures. Prior to that, the "stereotypical" vampire was from Eastern Europe (Transylvania, etc.). I also believe, like Chakira, that vampires (or similar creatures not yet labeled as such) existed throughout many different ancient civilizations (with no one specific point of origin). I believe my origins to be Proto-Indo-European, although I still wear an Egyptian ankh because it has become the most widely recognized symbol of the vampire subculture. As a Daemon, when I have taken a physical form, it always has been a vampire-type creature. I have memory fragments that are far older than any recorded civilizations, and I remember being incarnate as some type of vampire even in my earliest memories. |
