Holistic Tea
As a trained practitioner of some complimentary and holistic therapies, it has always been important for me to know and understand the different types of treatments that exist. Some of you may have come across the concept of Ayurveda. This is one of the medicinal systems used in the Indian subcontinent and it deals with the mind, body and spirit. Specifically the tridosha system considers that there has to be balance between the 3 doshas or humours of the body to bring about peace, good health and so aid our journey towards spiritual awakening and ascension. The doshas are Pitta (thermal), Vata (dynamic) and Kapha (cohesion). If you want to know more about them, just google them or ask and I'll explain more.

Anyway, anyone can easily mix their own herbal tea to being about a sense of calm and to bring about a balancing of the 3 doshas in their life. So here is the first herbal tea for perfect balance that can be made....

Ayurveda Tea:

1/2 teaspoon dry ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/2 teaspoon ground clove
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg

Mix all of these spices together and add 1 pinch of the mix to 1 cup of boiled water and sip gently. It is an aquired taste, but is supposed to bring about a sense of calm and balance, suitable before any light meditational work.

RE: Holistic Tea
"Aquired" taste. Hehe
I'll have to give that one ago at some point.
One question, could the freshly grated nutmeg be substituted with ground nutmeg?

What a wicked game to play,
To make me feel this way.
What a wicked thing to do,
To let me dream of you.
What a wicked thing to say,
You never felt this way.
What a wicked thing to do,
To make me dream of you.

RE: Holistic Tea
There would be no problem with using ground nutmeg......... its just that ground nutmeg looses its flavour evry quieckly, so having the dried nuts that you can grate as and when you want it is always better.

RE: Holistic Tea
I shall try that sometime. I find it very hard to calm myself... I suppose I am very excitable. Hehe. Only problem is that I'm allergic to black pepper. And theres only so much you can do to cover rashes... Would it still work if I removed that from the recipe?

RE: Holistic Tea
I've no idea.
Are you allergic to white pepper too?
Maybe you could use that?
Would white pepper be suitable to use as a substitute anyway HM?

RE: Holistic Tea
As a herbalist I would say that it would make a significant difference if you took out the black pepper because it is a major 'warming' ingredient. I am not sure but I would suggest that possibly chilli poweder would do it. White pepper is intrinsically different so I don't think it would work... well for the taste maybe but not the medicinal benefits.
