I am wondering why humans feel the need to name what they beleive in.
There are so many religions out there that profess to be the one true religion.
yet most are powered by fear.
"Believe in god or you will go to Hell" being the overall message
Paganism which appears to be the oldest religion(wicca is a newer version) uses the power of three rule to help keep followers in line.
Atheists are also boxed up just by not beleiving in Deity.
Even satanism as the thread here clearly shows has a set of rules that box it's followers into a tidy little group.
Humans costantly tidy things into little boxes so that they know what to do with them:-
What religion are you?(box)
What colour are you? (box)
What race are you? (box)
What car do you drive? (box)
What job do you do?
are you M/F? human ?Otherkin?
Are you Vampyre Dragon ,Demon,Wolf ,Wiccan,Pagan,Zen Buddhist,Taoist,Catholic,Tiger.
These are yet more boxes admittedly some look like they've been through a blender but it still adds up to a seperate little place to put people

Have you ever noticed how no matter what you are there always seems to be a set of rules on the top of the box.
Why?
Wouldn't it be much easier if we were all just us, you and me and them
I am not saying we shouldn't gather together as like minded people or with people who understand us but why does everyone always need a tidy little box.
For crying out loud they even use the damn phrase "think outside the box".
just to box that in too.
sheesh I dislike boxes intensely.

My dear Dragon, I so, so agree. I hate boxes. The only thing a box is good for is to wrap up a wonderful gift and at the end of the day the gift on the inside is so much nicer than the box, no matter how prettily it is wrapped and it is always dangerous to go by the wrapping as some of the best gifts are in the boxes bound iwth brown paper and string
Perhaps they need the tidy little boxes in order to understand their lives and where they have come from as well as try to see where they are going. By defining who they are, who their friends are, who their enemies are, etc., it can make them feel safe and secure.... without realising just how limiting it can be for them. I agree with you Chakira, what's inside the box is so much more interesting... but again that's part of the problem. The size, shape and colour of the box is seen as a representation of what's inside, when in reality the box can be like the Tardis, bigger on the inside that on the outside. Trying to get them to understand that the box isn't a definition but nothing more that a slight representation at times, is like trying to get blood from a stone.
Yes, it hurts the teeth
I have no great love for boxes myself, however some things need boxes.
Eggs for example would be impossible without a box.

In the same way people who are ugly inside are tolerated better if they are wrapped in a pretty box don't you find?
I agree that the box is not often a true representation of the contents (back to the people who are ugly inside) but many humans need them desperately just to make their lives make sense.
I think that is one of the reasons the humans have so much trouble with 'otherkin', because we do not fit into any boxes that they know of and we refuse to invent our own box to be safely placed in, they are completely at a loss to know how to deal with us. Normally when they are at such a loss they put the problem in a box and forget about it, but........... and here we go back to the beginning again like some insane Merry-Go-Round.
I am along for the ride and am having a great time with you all for company. :D
I will happily vote for a box free existence if someone will teach me how to juggle eggs. :)
I wonder if I should be worried.
I collect boxes!!! All sizes, all shapes. Pretty ones, wooden ones. You name it and I will probably have one.
Perhaps it is psychologically the thought that the more boxes I have the fewer there are available for other people to try to put me in.
What do you think?

:) :) :)
I find it intriguing. Might I ask, do you have one of those special boxes they put human organs in to move them for transplantation?
Trust you to think of that!!!!!

I understand absoltuely your obsession Velvet as I love boxes too. My son is also obsessed with boxes and he insists we have to keep them all (including the ones we have KFC in) and then fills them with all sorts of little things and then losed interest when a new one comes along.

He is certainly one of a kind. I think they have yet to invent the box he will fit into
I would have to agree that humans are ruled by boxes... when we are first born we are put in "boxes" other wise known as cribs. And threw out life they are consumed by boxes. like cubicles at a job, their job itself, the need of a motor car, and at the end of our life we are put back into a box.
Aaargh!!! What a picture of life!
