I am sorry to have to put this up on here,
I am into HIM yes i know to many metal heads, grungers so on HIM are a very light and pathetic band. Truth is though Gothic is not all about music styles. It is also about what an individual wishes to get into. Finding their own path of Gothism, If something touches you like a band, lyric or song you are allowed to like it. Many would say HIM are a bad band because lead singer Ville Valo is a dandy and knows nothing about love or death. No offence that is a lie, everyone experiences it in life, which means everyone has to know the basics even if it is not always the perfect truth. I like HIM not for "Ville Valo" the "Best front man ever" trade mark like all other HIM fans like them for, I like HIM for the music, that matches my mood.
What is your views?

I dont think I have ever heard HIM so I cant comment on them but I think that the value in music is in what we as individuals get out of it.
THis is a very subjective matter, we get different things at different times in different ways. One man's meat is another man's poison as they say and in my opinion it matters less what intrinsic value / meaning there may be in the music than the value / meaning we get out of it.
There can be a song which has been well thought out, beautifully presented and packaged, full of meaning and passion which can be viewed by many people as just a nice tune or as a load of trash. On the other hand there could be a commercially churned out trashy tune with meaningless or shallow words which sparks something in someone and is full of meaning to them.
You can listen to music and just like the tune or you can be touched deeply by it. Either way it is fine.

Chakira! Thanks for the comment, seeming you have not heard HIM at all just log onto http://www.myspace.com/heartagram and it should come up with some of their songs on there. They are a very good band, filled with very interesting and lovely memebers...the lead vocalist can act like a moron sometimes but he is not one when you hear his lyrics. He just acts like all normal rockstar pansy lol. I hope if you listen to them sometime soon that you like them. Tell me what you think.
Oh and just so you know i do agree firmly with your views on music. And thank you for your comment.

I personally don't have a problem with HIM, though I do have a problem with the legions of teenage girls throwing themselves at Ville Valo, it's almost a cult. Not my cup of tea. He does have a beautiful voice though.
I think music speaks to people individually ánd as a whole, which in large part also depends on the music genre. Take american hardcore, it speaks to some people individually, but also to the hardcore scene, instilling feelings of brotherhood and unity into them. It is the force that moves them, throughout their lives.
On the other hand, sometimes a song from a genre of music I don't listen to all to often really affects me, sometimes because the lyrics seem "just right", sometimes because the song gained a special meaning, sometimes both, like Konstantine, by Something Corporate does for me, while I'd usually rather listen to Heaven Shall Burn and the like.
I suppose there's hardly anything as subjective as ones perception of music. Ah well...
I quite like HIM, their music is rather good =] And yes...i do somehow fit that stereotype of teenage girls...i do think Ville Vallo is really attractive- but i don't have him plastered on my bedroom wall =D But i listen to a lot of pop/indie/punk...and recently have been spending a lot of time listening to Queens of the Stone Age and Children of Bodom. x
I used to really be into HIM and then...well I don't really like more popular bands(least popular bands in the US that is) I like HIMs older work. It's funny but I don't really find Ville as attractive as most do...though I do LOVE his eyes!
I listen to a lot of euro goth/rock bands by the way*check my sig*
TC
I checked out some you tube vids just to see for myself. You are right TC he does have amazing eyes and he is kind of cute. Some of his photos remind me a little bit of Val Kilmer being Jim Morrison in the Doors film. I cant say that he takes my breath away thought. Johny Depp is still my ideal man

Hmmm...Johny depp...nice...
I fancy Jared Leto. Most sexy man alive, ever. Want him in bedroom now.
Ooooooft Jonny Depp, couldn't stop leering at him in Sweeny Todd xD
Well, I googled Jared Leto but I have to say that Jonny still has no competition as far as I am concerned
