hi everyone...this is my first post in this section and yeah so dont hate me if its in the wrong spot or if theres another thread like this
yeah so pretty much ive been trying to follow the eightfold path for a while now and it never really occured to me until i was meditating one day that i should ask you guys about it and see what your opinions on it are (pros/cons/extra info) and yeah so here i am writing a thread about zen
thanks in advance for any answers
Haydos, we would never hate you and certainly not for putting a post in the wrong place.
Actually I would say that this a pretty good place but, given that it is a post about zen it should fit in anywhere.
To be perfectly honest this is something I know very very little about. I am, however, very interested in the whole concept and would be grateful for whatever information you can give Haydos, and anyone else who knows anythign on the subject.
From my very poor understanding I have always thought of zen as kind of reaching for enlightenment without looking, or looking in ordinary things. Putting together connections that dont seem to make sense to make you think of why they dont make sense and therefore seeing the sense in it. It is also about asking questions and seeking answers to the questions that have not been asked.
Ok that is now getting meaningless and as you can see I am straining myself trying to explain something I dont really understand so....over to you to ....

haha yeah chakira thats a very basic idea of what it is
ummm
ill try and find some info round the web that can sum it up cos im not much of a typer lol
I love it. I like a lot of the ideals of Buddhism generally. What I like most is the fact that the advocate personal responsibility. I suppose that is and always has been my mantra for life and something I have felt it very important to teach to my children.
I also love the stillness and the fact that they recognise the place of silliness and fun as a spiritual experience. The soul needs as many kinds of nourishment as the body.
