Over the time I have been on this board I have heard mention of many different kinds of spirits. Whether they are ghosts, types of kin or something different I dont know and I have had trouble keeping track of all the things which have been mentioned.
I would be very interested in any information anyone has regarding differnt kinds of spirits. For example what is the differnce between a shade and sprite, or a ghost and a ghoul?
Zygo I am kind of relying on you here as I know you have a lot of information on the subject

I have thought about this question quite a bit but I can't come up with a satisfactory way of answering a general question like this so I thought if I would turn it around to say.
If anyone has seen/heard or knows of any beings /spirits for which they have no name, please post a description in as much detail as you can as well as any feelings or things of note which happened at the time and I will see what I can do about giving you a type of being and any relevant information that will be of use if the situation arises again.

Alright, Zygo.
I have an incident that stands out quite readily in my mind. I'm sorry if I cannot describe the disembodied entity in more detail, as my perceptions tend to be vague, but I'll give it a go. =)
When I was younger, my parents divorced. My mom began dating very soon afterwards, and met this guy through her work. She moved into a small apartment with him, and my brothers and I staying the night with them rarely, mostly due to school and other inconvenience.
The apartment: it was a small place, with three bedrooms, a washroom, a kitchen and living-room. Above us lived a fragile old lady who I never really saw, and around us a young bachelor and older female. Our particular apartment was very tidy, a relatively new construct (I guestimate it to have been constructed in the 60's or 70's). I don't know who had lived there before us, but the person was a mildly clean-cut... I'm guessing she held an important position at a local business... she also smelled funny...
The place was fine during the day, although there was never really the feeling of being alone, mostly due to other residents, and the footsteps of the older woman above us. At night, however, I always had trouble sleeping. Sometimes it was general unease, other times, I could feel something in the room. On occaision, something would touch my face or bump against the wall (which I suppose might have been the dear old lady).
There was a particular incident when I had been unable to sleep and decided reading would get my mind off of things. The book was mello, typical romantic fantasy, but I decided to get some sleep. It wasn't long after putting out my light and snuggling deeply beneath the covers that I began to feel uneasy again. I tried to sleep, but felt as though malevolent eyes were gazing upon me.
Instead of doing anything about it (I wasn't yet awakened), I maintained my stillness, frozen in my bed. I would have fallen asleep like that if I hadn't felt the same feeling against my cheeks, running upwards on the right side to my forehead, resting there for a few seconds. I tried to ignore it as a weight pressed upon my body. I could almost hear the springs in my mattress creak, but the force wasn't very powerful, more a light pressure above me.
I could sense what was almost a shapeless black cloud above me, without much form except for what might have been a face.
By this point, I was rather maddened, and rolled from the bed, the feeling shattering almost immediately. I walked to calmly to my Mother's room, and never stayed the night with her again.. This was helped by the fact that my mother ended her relationship with the man just a week or so later.
Hope that was plenty of information. =)
It's the majority of what I can remember.

Just wondering but how old were you?
That sounds like a Vampire attack.
Some unscrupulous Psychic vampires will prey on children to get a hit of Fear.
Quite often they are messed up in some way themselves and have unbalanced their spirit by feeding in the wrong way on this kind of energy.
I experienced a similar one as a child and they generally stand on the edge of the child's perception being just tangible enough to make shadows, piles of clothes, toys or under the bed look menacing.
Then they let the childs imagination run away with the situation, while they merrily feed on and nurture the fear pouring out of the child who is usually too afraid to do anything but hide under the covers. Because after all, Mummy and Daddy say theres nothing there and don't be so silly or grow up ...you know the kind of things
It sounds like your particular Vampire tried to take it to the next level by terrifying you to the point where he (probably male) had complete access to your energies.
The only thing is that being all messed up themselves these kinds of Vampires though dangerous to the uninitiated are not very strong, so your burst of anger was more than enough to break his concentration and leave you safe.
Zygo
I was barely 15.
That is very interesting...
I almost want to rethink what initiated my awakening. I have a good idea who it might have been, although he was miles away at the time. I know physical distance is hardly a factor, but he does not seem quite skillful enough to have pulled it off at the time..
Come to think of it, we weren't exactly acquaintances at the time, although he did attend my school.

I dont know the circumstances of your awakening DI but I can tell you that attacks like this are designed to have the opposite effect.
Stalling the Persons awakening for as long as possible so that the one doing the feeding can make the most of their energy source in secret.
If they can bring their energy level down far enough the person may never know they are Kin at all.
I heard a Scottish person once use the phrase "Grotty little byblow" for this type of Vampire.
I whole heartedly agree with him. Preying on defenceless children is inexcusable and anyone who would defend this kind of action should be tarred with the same name in my book.
This kind of abuse makes me seethe.
I personally don't stand for it ...ever.
I stand with you there in no uncertain terms Zygo.
Forgive me for asking DI but was there any tinge of sexuality about the experience. The reason I am asking is that the thing that came to my mind was that it might have been and incubus (male/positive energy) or a succubus (female / negative energy). They tend to hang around people on the threshold of their sexual awakening feeding on the repressed sexuality.
No, Chakira. I didn't feel anything sexual about it, but I have also harbored the idea of incubi and succubi when trying to figure out what kind of entity it really was. I wonder also if it wasn't a manifestation of some negative residue in the house, although I'm not sure where it might have come from. I always did get a bad or creepy feeling there. Somehow my mind wants to relate it to the woman upstairs, but I cannot openly suggest she had anything to do with it.
I keep my options open... I can't really be sure. Zygo, your idea makes sense, although I really don't know who it could have been, and I seriously doubt it was my friend.
Fear would be the last thing a sexual vampire would want so attacking like this would not help them at all.
A sexual Vampire is far more likely to be the incredibly seductive person found in a nightclub than one sneaking around the astral.
While it may be possible for one to feed from a couple, attacking a single minor would be pointless.
Even with a couple it would be difficult because any energy produced is directed soley at the other person in the couple.
Hence sexual Vampires work via direct contact, inducing pleasure not fear.
Zygo
Good point, Zygo.
But, Chakira, was your intent to refer to incubi and succubi as uncarnate beings? (Assuming that is possible..?)
:/
*ugh*
(I'm not one for differentiating between astral beings... obviously.)
Thank you both.
