there are a few people that i've asked that question and most of them just shrug and walk off so......... any ideas??

ta

shadowed belief
Well, what a good question and what a difficult one.

I suppose the starting point would be 'how do you define gothic' Are we talking about the architectural period, the genre, the 'feel'?

I would have to suggest that the answer is going to be as varied as the definitions and more
It could be Gregorian Chanting, Medeival music, church music, anything spooky, anything which says it is...and so much more

In the end it has to be, i suppose...'Whatevere you want it to be'.
Hi Shadow.
You do go straight for the jugular don't you? Asking all the hardest questions. :D
OK well this is what I think.
If you imagine yourself as the star of the spookiest movie you've ever seen, you're in a graveyard, creeping along in the dark trying to make no sound, when you see, coming toward you through the fog, a terrifying sight. (Here you can pick your own terrifying thing, a human eating popcorn, a baby with a dummy, a small child with a dolly, or something similar. LOL) Really pick anything that frightens you a lot. :)
Desperate to get away you scan the graveyard for somewhere to hide, anywhere will do a you are truly terrified. Turning you spy a crypt door which is open just a little and you speed towards it, not giving yourself time to think about it too much. Pushing open the door you squeeze inside.
Breathing slowly and silently so as not to draw attention to yourself you hide in the darkness of the crypt. Peering through the crack in the doorway you watch, holding your breath as the terrifying thing passes by without noticing you.
Not daring to risk leaving yet you finally relax enough to take notice of your surroundings. Looking slowly round the dim interior you notice a torch on the wall beside your head, you light it with a handy box of matches you happen to always carry! LOL
From the light cast by the blazing torch you see a large crypt with several caskets in residence, on the far wall opposite you you see a small door which leads to a tunnel cut back into the hillside behind the crypt. Your curiosity gets the better of you and you follow the tunnel down into the darkness...............
Imagine any kind of music you like to accompany you from the beginning to the end of this little play. If it fits in with the general mood cast by this scene then in my opinion THAT is gothic music.
Whatever it sounds like, whoever it is by, if it does not seem out of place here in this cemetary, in this crypt, in this tunnel, then it is gothic music.

Darkness. :gwere:
yes thats a great story i want 2 know what at the end of the tunnel as well and as for gothic music i would say look at some of Cradle Of Filths songs i would say that might be considered gothic
I've listened to some of the songs on the CD "Good Charlotte, Good Morning Revival" and they're quite good.
There's a clip on the bottom for the song "MISERY" And there's one for "All Black"

Perfect.
And a lovely story too. What is down at the end of the tunnel?

C.T.M.

At the back of our house is a dark dark crypt.
In the dark dark crypt is a dark dark tunnel.
Through the dark dark tunnel is a dark dark path.
down the dark dark path is a dark dark wall.
Past the dark dark wall is a dark dark forest.
through the dark dark forest is a dark dark drive.
at the end of the dark dark drive is a dark dark cottage.
in the dark dark cottage is a dark dark door.
Behind the dark dark door is a dark dark room.
In the back of the dark dark room is a dark dark corner.
in the dark dark corner is a dark dark hole.
In the dark dark hole is a dark dark place .................

with a little mouse called Fred who says HELLO!!!!
whistling dark organ music from the last vampire movie he watched.
(well I had to make it link in somehow. :P )

Zygo

xD zygo i loved the ending 2 it and ask fred how the movie was
That's where he went. The last time i saw Fred he was running away from a certain dragon/phoenix who was protecting a very special cheese store for a restaurant in a nice warm place run by a very nice cat on behalf of the big cheese himself.

It's nice to see that you have made up.

By the way they play very nice gothic music in that restaurant
I've heard the dark dark thing before. but ive never heard the bit about fred.
I'd love to know more about him , he sounds like a pretty cool mouse

Oh

DARKNESS Thanks for the story it's very very cool. As to the bit whatever scares me the most. Little kids singing songs that are supposed to be cute in high squeaky voices   Arggh !!!!!!!!!!
If you want to continue your pursit for Gothic Music, try taking a wander down the genre lane and when you pass the house made out of candy, tripped over the bones of two half-eaten child-zombies(i think it makes a better ending anyway!), you will find yourself in The Rasmus region of town. Very relaxing, therapeutic listening.
