It has been brought to the attention of the Mods that there has been some swearing on the site and this has upset some of the members.
As it is your site I thought that it would be only fair for you to decide whether you want your Moderators to censor out any swearing or leave it be.
This is meant to be a place for you to voice your opinions as well as vote so that we can make a balanced decision.
So what do you think. Is swearing an element of free expression and censoring a heavy handed example of unwelcome 'nannying'. Or is swearing an uneccessary and uncouth refuge of the ineffective and censoring a necessary service to protect the members and provide a safe haven from the harsh realities of the real world.
Or are they something else altogether. You decide
To be honest if the Moderators don't censor out any swearing on an open view site like this what is the point of them being here at all.
The Mods are in place to look after the integrity of the site and remove all unsavoury posts from porn to spam to foul language.
I feel very strongly that swearing should not be allowed simply because this is an open site where with permission any one of any age is allowed to post.
If swearing is allowed then any younger readers are quickly going to find that their permission is removed.
No one of school age or who is using a school or library computer will be able to access the site and any one who's computer uses a filter will simply not see half of the posts.
There is also a strong possibility that search engines will have to remove the site from there non adult listings because there is bad language in use.
For the sake of the site I feel it would be a bad idea to change the rules about bad language.
Any post deemed to be unsuitable or inappropriate will be removed, if you feel a post is inappropriate please notify Administration immediately. This site is moderated and all posts read by the moderator team but due to the nature of a forum posts are visible immediately after submission and therefore there would be a delay before inappropriate posts can be removed. Discretion should be used if you feel you shouldn't view such material. Users should note that their IP address is recorded and if the administrator feels an inappropriate post is severe enough your ISP may be informed of your actions. By submitting information to this site you grant permission to the site owners to reproduce your posts in any form they choose and forfeit any rights over said information. Thank you.
is what it says at the bottom of the screen and I stand by that.
No one should find the posts here offensive.
argumentative and thought provoking but not offensive.
If bad language causes a bad reaction with anyone it should not be allowed .
I voted to have it removed.

I don't want a haven from the harsh realities of the real world. I want somewhere where swearing is not an issue.
I live in the real world and although it does contain language like that sometimes, it does not happen every time someone opens their mouth, and it is not contained in every sentence we speak.
Everyone can type posts without it containing swear words if they want to. It is their choice. What I would not agree with is if their freedom to type it was supported whilst my right not to have to read it was ignored.
I think in everyday life it is unnecessary, and very unpleasant.
I know that it is supposed to be insulting, offensive and unpleasant. That is what makes it so effective when you use it in the right circumstances.
But that is at the right time, in the right place. I think that here on this forum is not the right place for it.
I do not consider the removal of offensive or potentially offensive material 'nannying'. I consider it necessary if people like Haydos insist upon exercising their rights to post such things despite the fact that many of us may not want it here.
If this forum votes to allow swearing here, I think it will spoil the forum for many.
I vote for removal.

And also as I see it..as time is now...100% for CENSORSHIP.
Swearing should be allowed, yes, but I also believe in a place as this, we are away from the world, away from the harsh society, away from the things that could harm us.
We are all family. Though you may wish to express your feelings in harsh ways as this, as I have most likely on here...
We all have self-will to not swear, or not swear as bad. Just think....you go to a school, your work, down the street, in the store, or even at your home, sometimes ALL you hear is the constant swearing... I know I do about everywhere, but that is just me.
Though some find no offense (as I) some do, some should not even be hearing this, and just many other factors.
Yes, some of you will say this is against Free Speech possibly, but just think of it this way... (jokingly of course)
Atleast we are asking you, and being diplomatic.
but of course, I am just rambling now. So I would like to add that even though I am a potty-mouth, horrible swearning Teenager..that is just myself. I do have self-restraint and I believe that my second home and Haven shouldn't have so much of the...more annying side...of the real world.
A lot of this my contradict itself, but to me it makes perfect sense, ha. But yes, I am all for the censorship.
And as all above have said, I'd reread. They're wise and now what is good for the site. (And more who know will of course post! As everyone has an opinion that will help the site out anyway..)
I have to vote for censorship. It's not that I don't swear, but I believe we have a right to diligent conversation that does not involve a need for the usage of swears. If one were to think about it, swearing usually constitutes an offense.
What I mean to say is: one does not swear in joy, and I'm sure most of us here have had our share of sorrow. And if the word is used in jest, there are far too many who would take offense.
Besides, it's far more creative (and fun) to be original, rather than repeat a word that (by now) has lost any true depth anyway. It's the superficial things in life that catch us in the throat.

...ill just go ban myself
Haydos, just because you were the one who precipitated this debate it does not mean that the posts here are all getting at you personally and there is no suggestion of your being banned just because you used one swear word.
Although not everyone has posted as yet I think that it is quite clear, as Come to Mr, Hollow Man and InDarknessBeWere have already expressed their opinions elsewhere I shall Close here and confirm that from now on Moderators will censor posts for swearing and will replace any swear words with asterixs.
Thanks for your input and the lively and creative way you have expressed your views
