Douglas Adams once wrote that the knack to flying unaided was to throw oneself at the ground whilst simultaniously forgetting what you were doing.
Thus rendering your brains belief in gravity null and void and therefore floating.
The continuation of the flight then relies upon you not thinking about the fact that you are still breaking the physical laws of gravity by flying unaided.

Flying aside for a second ....I can see a relation to most risky new ventures in everyday life.
So if I think that anything I try is automatically doomed to failure I immediately render it impossible to succeed in.
Basically the brain decides that because it thinks it will fail then that is exactly what happens.

Back to the flying: If you set out throwing yourself at the ground knowing you are going to fail.......... you will.
Equally if you set out to run up that steep hill knowing that you won't make it all the way up then chances are......... you won't.
Wouldn't it be better to just run up the hill and see what happens.

So if you can have a generally positive attitude about all the things you do then so much the better.

If you can suspend (forget) that "I'm doomed to fail" bit of the your brain then the possibilities can and do become incredible.
So the next time you are hurtling earthward at near terminal velocity with your brain sitting comfortably back in it's safe little zone saying thats better "I have restored the laws of physics to their rightful place".
and just before you started falling and really thinking about it you were flying around over mountain tops without a care in the world.

Try and remember that just getting out there and doing it can be better than analyzing every little bit of it.
You have the ability to do amazing things so why not try flying unaided (metaphorically speaking).

No jumping off buildings etc please  .
